Introduction to Sport Law CPD
This is a recording of a live CPD that occurred on March 26, 2026. The information is accurate as of that date. This webinar is for lawyers and law students and is not legal advice.
This session is designed for people who have had no or very little experience giving advice in matters involving amateur sport. In this session we will provide a high level overview of the key legislation, guiding legal principles, the nature of the relationship between athletes, coaches and sporting associations and the various systems that exist in Canada to resolve sports-related disputes. This session would be appropriate for both lawyers and articling students and will cover content of interest for litigators, solicitors, investigators and mediator/arbitrators.
Erin Durant leads the session. Erin is the founder of Durant Barristers. Erin has significant experience providing legal advice in amateur sport including to national and provincial associations, universities, colleges, athletes, coaches, and local leagues and associations. She has also acted as a neutral to conduct investigations, mediations and arbitrations in amateur sport that arose from high-profile situations and conflicts. The session includes 60 minutes of lecture material followed by 30 minutes of Q & A discussion. Registrants will also receipt a package of resources curated by Erin.
Erin's goals with this CPD series are to: a) provide more lawyers with the base knowledge necessary to start building a practice in this area and b) to create a network of individuals who can stay connected and grow as practitioners together.
This program may be eligible for law society CPD credits. Check the applicable rules in your jurisdiction.
